The climate here is mild, as the influence of the Mediterranean Sea tempers the winter cold and the summer heat. The region is known for mild winters without snow and the most sunny days in Slovenia. You can be active regardless of the season. Hikers and runners will have a hard time deciding on the right trail, as there’s truly an abundance of them. There’s something to make even adrenaline junkies excited. Paragliders and speleologists are sure to find challenges that will excite their imagination for a long time to come.

    Where will you go?

The coastal towns of Piran, Izola, and Koper preserve their Mediterranean character with medieval town centres. Go swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, or sailing. Most bathing sites and the marina are awarded the blue flag which is an international ecological symbol of quality for natural bathing sites and marinas.

Go cycling, walking, or running. Among dedicated trails, you’ll find the Parenzana particularly attractive. This is a 130 km cycling trail taking you from Trieste and across the entire coast of Slovenia to Croatia.

In Portorož and elsewhere on the coast, there are plenty of opportunities for rest and regeneration. It’s easy to find top-class wellness services. If you visit the Sečovlje Salt Pans, you can observe salt makers as they work and numerous birds that live there

If you head inland, you’ll end up in the Karst. Go underground, to one of our planet’s most well-known caves – the Postojna Cave. Go as a tourist or a cave explorer. The latter also love visiting many other caves that are mostly not suitable for tourist visits, but pose a true challenge to speleologists and adrenaline junkies.

Hike up to one of the panoramic lookouts or jump off them with a paraglider. The Karst is criss-crossed with hiking and cycling trails. You can also find excellent climbing sites on the Karst Rim.

The noble Lipizzaner horses, wonderful white horses bred in Lipica, are also from the Karst. Go riding or take a carriage ride across endless meadows. End your active day in the gentle Brda Hills and the Vipava Valley, where you can taste world-class wines and excellent cuisine.

The Karst & Mediterranean Slovenia is truly a top outdoor destination for pleasure-seekers!
